The Tampa Bay Buccaneers couldn’t keep up their hot start to the season. Baker Mayfield regressed, the stars got hurt, and Todd Bowles’ questionable decision-making ultimately led to the team’s downfall.

That’s why there are some serious rumblings about his future with the team. And, as crazy as it may seem, even some inside the building might want him gone.

That’s pretty much the case with Baker Mayfield’s wife, Emily. Per Bucs insider Matthew Hewitt on X, Emily liked an Instagram post about John Harbaugh’s potential availability.

The post read that multiple teams reached out to the former Baltimore Ravens head coach within 45 minutes of being fired. Perhaps, she wants the Bucs to be one of those teams.

When asked about his future with the organization, Coach Bowles claimed that he had earned the benefit of the doubt:

“All I can do is coach and be myself. I’ve earned the chance – I’ve won three straight division titles, so that says a lot as far as I’m concerned. I don’t really have a message for fans other than true fans are true fans and we’re going to try to do our best to go out there and win for them. They’re going to feel how they feel, but that’s not a coach’s problem. The coach’s problem is to make the team better and that’s all I’m looking forward to,” Bowles said, via NFL. “I understand their frustrations, I understand our own frustrations, as well. It’s well-warranted and it’s well-warranted within the building, as well.” Per NFL.com

He has a valid point, but it’s also worth noting that the NFC South was one of the weakest divisions in the league for several years. This year, a nervous Baker Mayfield had to root for the New Orleans Saints to do their dirty job, but to no avail.

Baker Mayfield Has Some Ties To John Harbaugh

Also, we can’t ignore the fact that John Harbaugh seems to be a fan of Mayfield. According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, Mayfield was one of the Ravens’ potential options to be Lamar Jackson’s backup in 2023:

“The Ravens, who face uncertainty around Lamar Jackson’s future, have been involved in the free agent quarterback market, looking into options such as Baker Mayfield and Jacoby Brissett, per league sources. Baltimore appears to be looking for flexibility,” Fowler reported back then.

The Buccaneers have more than enough talent on both sides of the field. While they’re not the strongest team in the NFC by any means, landing a proven winner like John Harbaugh could be a step in the right direction.

It’s unclear if the Bucs want to fire Bowles. But even if that wasn’t the plan at first, Harbaugh’s firing might change their approach to the offseason.
