Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is hopeful that the team is pissed off after their upset loss to the New England Patriots.
The Buccaneers were coming off their bye week and entered the game as favorites to defeat the Patriots. Yet, Drake Maye and New England had a ton of success, and Mayfield is disappointed about the loss.
“Offensively, I am hoping our guys do get pissed off about this,” Mayfield said postgame on Sunday. “This isn’t the end of our season, I know that; we still have very important games ahead of us, but games like this, when you don’t win them, it should sting; it should really hurt.”
Mayfield finished the game going 28-for-43 for 273 yards and three touchdowns as he had a lot of success.
Yet, the quarterback felt like he missed some throws, which proved to be the difference in the Buccaneers’ 28-23 loss to the Patriots.
“Like I said, (it was a) lack of execution,” Mayfield said. “There is a certain point, we are a good team, but to be great, when you score on the opening drive, you know what it looks like, you set the tone, you’re not satisfied with it.
“You come back and in your head, it’s 0-0, and you go do it again. Right now, I think we are lacking that on offense, and it comes down to me; that is my job to get that fixed, and I will do that.”
With the win, the Patriots improved to 8-2 and have now won seven straight games. New England will host the New York Jets on Thursday.
