Fans tuning into the Atlanta Falcons this season better be prepared to see something different. Not only have the Falcons hired a two-time NFL Coach of the Year in Kevin Stefanski, chances are they’ll have a new starting quarterback too as Michael Penix Jr. continues to recover from last season’s torn ACL. Yet, the former first-round pick still has a chance to enter the season as QB1, if he can fend off Pro Bowl QB Tua Tagovailoa.
No matter who wins the Falcons’ QB competition in Atlanta, they’ll have the benefit of throwing to Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts. But should any of those playmakers get hurt, there could be trouble afoot in Atlanta. This is a group that lacks depth at the pass-catcher position, but a high-profile free agent addition could ease those concerns.

One player who’s surprisingly still unsigned in free agency is wide receiver Stefon Diggs. The former First-Team All-Pro is coming off his seventh 1,000-yard season in the past eight years, and presumably still has a lot to offer. He believes he’s the NFL’s best No. 2 receiver, and now he’ll get a chance to back up that statement, but with which team?
The Athletic‘s Daniel Popper believes Diggs’ best fit lies in Atlanta with the Falcons, where he’d be an ideal complementary fit next to London and Pitts.
Popper also cited Diggs’ connection with the Falcons’ head coach. Stefanski was on the Minnesota Vikings‘ coaching staff for five seasons with Diggs from 2015-19. Both sides may welcome a reunion, especially considering they may be exactly what one another needs at this stage in the offseason.
