We kicked off a 4 part WCG roundtable about free agency yesterday, and here’s part two.

Chicago Bears fans have had Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Trey Smith penciled in as a Bear for a few months now. Smith fills a massive need for the Bears, and they have the salary cap space to make a splash, while K.C.’s cap is currently in the red. While Smith would be a huge get for general manager Ryan Poles, they have the finances to target another need position, so here’s the second roundtable question posed to our team.

Assuming the Bears land Trey Smith, who is your number two free agent you hope the Bears sign?

Jacob Infante: Drew Dalman, the Falcons’ center, is a name that comes to mind. He’s graded as a top-five center by PFF each of the last two years, and he’s only 26 years old. He’s the top center on the market and one of the best players at the position in the NFL. Considering the position has been a nonfactor at best and a total liability at worst for the better part of the last half-decade, the Bears making a big move at center would be welcomed.

Aaron Leming: Atlanta Falcons center Drew Dalman. Frankly, he should be a top target whether Smith is their top target or not, but he becomes a “must” if they miss on Smith.

Bryan Orenchuk: It is all about O-Line for me no matter what. Trey Smith, Drew Dalman or Kevin Zeitler/Will Fries and Ryan Kelly all day. Need to upgrade a minimum of 2 iOL spots with above average starters with Dalman being my top option after luring in Trey Smith.

Lester A. Wiltfong Jr.: I’m all in for a double dip on the offensive line, even if that means making Dalman the highest-paid center to go along with Trey Smith as the top-paid guard. However, Detroit’s Kevin Zeitler would be nice to slot on at left guard.

Josh Sunderbruch: I think the most popular choice is going to be Drew Dalman, as it should be, so I’m just going to point out that the last time the Bears acquired Khalil Mack and added him to a team with a sophomore quarterback and an offensive head coach, they made the playoffs. So, it’s whatever, but at least see if his agent takes the call and what the price happens to be.

Mongo Peanut: If the Bears get Trey Smith, their offensive line’s outlook will improve exponentially. In that event, I would see if you can get a player to bookend Montez Sweat. Given his dominant Super Bowl and the temptation of the potential duo nicknames, I would go after Josh Sweat. The Sweat “Brothers” would just be too cool to pass up.

Erik Duerrwaechter: Give me Josh Sweat at DE to pair with Montez Sweat. That DE position adjacent from Tez has simply been ineffective and needs a real force who can set the edge consistently. Dennis Allens’...
