Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty forked out a pretty penny to get his desired jersey number from a teammate.

The Raiders used the No. 6 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft on Ashton Jeanty, who finished second in 2024 Heisman Trophy voting behind Colorado Buffaloes two-way phenom Travis Hunter. In his final season at Boise State, Jeanty rushed for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns.

It was recently revealed that Jeanty will wear No. 2 for the Raiders, the same digit he wore at Boise State. Of course, the No. 2 was previously occupied by veteran kicker Daniel Carlson, who changed to the No. 8.

During his appearance on Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams” program, Ashton Jeanty revealed that it cost him a fortune to acquire the No. 2 from Daniel Carlson. Jeanty didn’t provide a specific number, but it was undoubtedly more than pocket cash for an NFL player’s standards.

“You could probably buy a house (with the money he paid Carlson) A nice-sized house. Actually, I’m not gonna say a house…I’m gonna say a car like a nice Mercedes. You could buy like a Mercedes GLE.”

"You could probably buy a house”…

This little story has a feel-good aspect, too. Jeanty added that some of the money he paid Carlson is going to charity.

It’s not rare for professional athletes to pay a teammate money to obtain their preferred jersey number. After being acquired by the Houston Texans last year, wide receiver Stefon Diggs paid safety Jimmie Ward $100,000 for the No. 1.

Ashton Jeanty & Raiders Open 2025 Season At New England Patriots

Jeanty will make his NFL debut on Sept. 7, when the Las Vegas Raiders travel to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots. That game will mark Tom Brady’s return to New England, as the NFL legend is now a minority owner of the Raiders.
