Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty may not be having the overall strong rookie season he was expected to have when he was the No. 6 overall draft pick.
The Boise State hasn’t averaged four yards a carry in seven of the 2-7 Raiders’ nine games this season. He is averaging 3.8 yards a carry overall. While he hasn’t gotten great blocking on a consistent basis, Jeanty hasn’t shown he is a generational player, either quite yet.
But Jeanty is excelling in one area — a very vital area.
The kid is finding the end zone.
Jeanty has seven touchdowns (four as a rusher, three as a receiver). It’s tied for the second most touchdowns by a running back in their first nine games behind Hall of Famer Marcus Allen.
For an offense that is averaging is just 15.4 points a game, having a running back with a sense for the end zone is a needed quality.
