Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II shared his feelings about the failed proposal to ban the tush push.

Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II said in March that the Steelers were in favor of banning the tush push. However, the measure failed to get the required 75% of votes to pass on Wednesday and Rooney shared his feelings about the matter.

“I don’t think it’s the end of the world that it’s not banned,” Rooney said via ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “I was for it, but even if we passed the ban, we’re still going to have QB sneaks in the game. I think more was made out of it than it was.”

Pittsburgh was among the 22 teams that voted to ban the tush push, but it doesn’t seem like it felt strongly enough on either side.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who’s a member of the competition committee, still seemed to be undecided at the NFL owner’s meetings.

“I think we’re still in hot debate on it,” Tomlin said. “We just left the meeting where some other further discussions have been had, and it might even change here in the next 24 hours in terms of some of the language or the trajectory of some of the arguments based on the change in potential language, but it applies to that and all of the other proposals that we’re discussing. It’s really fluid at this point.”

The measure was close to passing as it was just two votes shy of the necessary amount. But Pittsburgh must now shift its focus of the tush push onto how it can help it in 2025 as opposed to the contrary.

With the margin being so narrow, it’s probably safe to assume that the tush push will once again be on the docket for the 2026 NFL owner’s meetings.
