Behind the Steel Curtain
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new head coach: former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.
That decision has been met with heavy criticism from both the fan base and media alike over the last 24 hours. In his first public statements on the matter, team President Art Rooney II said he isn’t worried about the immediate reactions.
“We’re really not worried about winning the initial press conference,” Rooney said via Bob Labriola. “It’s about picking the coach we believe will help us win games, and social media really doesn’t enter into it. And none of that will matter once we’re starting to play games. The message for our fans is we’re very excited. We think we have a coach who is well-equipped to lead us into the next winning phase of Steelers football, and that’s what it’s all about. I think they’re going to love Coach Mike.”
McCarthy has 11-10 win seasons to his name, as well as a playoff record of 11-11. He led the Packers to a Super Bowl win over the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
