Right around the time Brady’s reign ended, Mahomes’ began. While Brady won both of their head-to-head matchups in the postseason, Mahomes’ first seven seasons as a starting quarterback might be the greatest seven-year stretch of any player ever at the position.
The Kansas City Chiefs wunderkind has already won three Super Bowls and two league MVPs, while his five Super Bowl appearances are tied for the second-most ever for a QB.

Mahomes, of course, has also been statistically dominant. He threw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his first season as a starter. (Only Peyton Manning has done it otherwise.) In 2023, Mahomes became the quickest to 200 touchdown passes; in 2024, the quickest to 30,000 passing yards. His 5.9 touchdown percentage is third all time in the Super Bowl era. His 1.8 interception rate ranks fifth. His 102.1 career passer rating is second. His 288.9 passing yards per game are first.

Eagles: Beat the Blitz
All quarterbacks are worse when pressured than when clean, and Hurts is no exception. However, the split between a clean pocket for Hurts and a pressured play is as large of a gap as it is for any quarterback in the NFL. The Chiefs rank 13th in blitz rate, but defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s ability to scheme unblocked blitzers has been the best in the NFL by far since he was hired in 2019.
Hurts’ mobility allows him to buy some time and break a tackle occasionally, but he’s more of a power runner than an elusive type who avoids sacks. His time to throw when pressured was the third-highest despite his yards per attempt dropping from 9.3 to 4.9 and his turnover-worthy-throw rate plummeting from 1.8 percent to 5.3 percent. Hurts is just a bad quarterback under pressure.

They returned the Lombardi Trophy to Kansas City, ending an absence of half a century. The offense wasn’t as lethal as the version from 2018, when Mahomes had his breakout MVP season. But this better-balanced squad overcame double-digit deficits in all three playoff wins, including a 31-20 Super Bowl triumph over the 49ers, Mahomes the game’s MVP despite a pair of INTs.
