The Arizona Cardinals have placed their veteran cornerback on the non-football injury list.

The Arizona Cardinals have been aggressive in adding cornerbacks all offseason, and now that aggressiveness is making sense.

Ian Rapoport announced the team has placed veteran cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Murphy-Bunting is done for the 2025 NFL season, so the Cardinals adding Will Johnson and Denzel Burke, to a room that was pretty full, makes sense.

We even wondered why the team continued during the offseason, after the 2025 NFL Draft, to bring in veteran cornerbacks like Asante Samuel Jr.

Now the question becomes how does this get handled? The Arizona Cardinals are not obligated to pay Murphy-Bunting’s 2025 salary now since he was injured away from the team in non-football activity.

So, do they just move on for breach of contract, do they toll the contract, not pay in ‘25 and bring him back in 2026, or do they pay a portion/negotiate a buyout?

Murphy-Bunting signed a three-year $25.5 million contract last offseason, and followed it up with three interceptions in 16 games.

He was the lone veteran presence in the secondary teeming with young talent. So, do the Cardinals continue to pursue a veteran talent?
