Revenge of the Birds
After one of the most humiliating performances in recent memory, the Arizona Cardinals now sit at 3-6 on the season.
More than that though, they sit at the worst spot in sports… purgatory.
After the game ended and the dust settled, they are 12th in the NFC playoff standings, with all three NFC West teams in front of them. Meaning they would have to win out basically to have a shot to overtake one of those teams, and the San Francisco 49ers, their next opponent, are not even in the playoffs as of now.
The only teams in front of them that they own tie-breakers over are the Dallas Cowboys, who stink out loud, and the Carolina Panthers, who seem to only have a shot at making the playoffs winning the NFC South.
And let’s be honest, the Cardinals are not making the playoffs as constructed.
So, you look towards the 2026 NFL Draft, where the Cardinals don’t even have a top 10 pick as of now.
In fact, they have the 11th pick, and sit behind the… Los Angeles Rams, who own the rights to the Atlanta Falcons picks.
That is what makes this season even worse. The Cardinals have nothing to hang their hat on, they don’t have an answer at the most important positions, and their division rival who is in the playoffs, could also pick before them in the draft and potentially snipe a quarterback that could interest the Cardinals.
It is unfortunate where they are stuck, especially with how the contracts for Jonathan Gannon and Monti Ossenfort are set up.
They are heading into year four (if they are retained as expected), but can you justify giving a contract extension to any of these guys? So, you are going to go into a year with lame ducks at all the important positions, head coach, GM and maybe Jacoby Brissett at the quarterback position as some have speculated since early in the season.
So, what is the plan?
That will continue to be the question and more importantly the concern for the Arizona Cardinals.
