NFL Network analyst Peter Schrager believes the Pittsburgh Steelers are the most intriguing team over the next few months.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering a pivotal offseason in which they are expected to have upwards of $60 million in salary cap space and questions all over their roster, most notably at quarterback. Does that make the Steelers the most intriguing team this offseason?
NFL Network analyst Peter Schrager thinks so.
“The team that I’m looking at is a team that seems to get to the playoffs every year and has a giant question mark at quarterback. That’s the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Schrager said on “Good Morning Football.” “You don’t have a quarterback under contract going into combine week. That includes Justin Fields. That includes Russell Wilson. And of course, Kenny Pickett is over in Philly now.”
The most intriguing team over the next few months? @PSchrags looks to the @steelers , who are once again, faced with a QB quandary.

The Steelers do have one quarterback under contract for the 2025 season in Skylar Thompson, who just signed a future contract last month. However, he was not brought in to be the Steelers’ starter next season.
It remains to be seen who that will be, but Pittsburgh has plenty of options to choose from, whether it be via free agency, a trade or the 2025 NFL Draft.
Schrager believes the Steelers must determine what type of team they are before choosing which quarterback will best suit them for 2025 and beyond.
“So I look at this Steelers team. What are you? Are you a team in transition? Are you in rebuild mode,” Schrager asked. “Are we the team that’s going to go get Matthew Stafford? Are we the team that’s going to get Aaron Rodgers? Are we the team that’s going to get Kirk Cousins? Are we the team that’s going to get Derek Carr? There are so many viable veteran options out there.”
The Steelers seem to be turning over every stone as they have been linked to almost all of those quarterbacks in some form since the 2024 season ended.
On Monday, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated revealed the Steelers are among the teams that have already expressed interest in Stafford.
It’s unlikely Pittsburgh would be willing to pay his potentially $50 million price tag on top of what it would take to acquire him, but Schrager isn’t ruling anything out in what is viewed by many to be a weak rookie quarterback class.
“With the 21st overall pick and is what I would say is an underwhelming quarterback class, I would think they’re going to go veteran again,” Schrager said. “Steelers are fascinating. A good team, not a great team. But that’s been their story for nearly a decade in Pittsburgh.”
