Arch Manning does not know when he is going to declare for the NFL Draft. His grandfather, Archie Manning, spoke out of turn.

Everything is on the table… kind of.

It is very possible that the former No. 1 overall recruit could choose to play one, two or even three additional seasons of college football with the Longhorns. It is just as possible that he could turn pro in April.

Archie Manning apologized to Arch Manning.

As things currently stand, Arch Manning has three seasons of eligibility remaining at Texas. He took a redshirt in 2023. He played in 10 games with two starts as a redshirt freshman in 2024.

Technically speaking, Manning could be the starting quarterback for the Longhorns in 2025, 2026 and 2027. Eli Manning took a very similar approach at Ole Miss.

Archie’s youngest son used his redshirt in 1999, played six games in 2000, and started every game in 2001, 2002, 2003. The Manning family patriarch would love to see his eldest grandson take a similar approach to his career.

In fact, Archie even went so far as to say that Arch “is not going to” declare for the upcoming NFL Draft and “will be at Texas” in 2026. He later apologized to his grandson for speaking on something he did not know.

“I don’t know where he got that from,” Arch Manning said. “He texted me to apologize about that.”

The Longhorns’ starting quarterback is only worried about his Week 1 matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes. And then his focus will shift to Week 2, and then Week 3, and so on and so forth…

NFL teams will (probably) be disappointed if they tank.

Arch Manning said that he is “really just” taking his future “day by day right now.” He does not know what the future holds in terms of 2026 and beyond.

His grandfather could get his wish. Perhaps not.

Arch might choose to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft as a redshirt sophomore if he goes undefeated en route to a Heisman Trophy and a national championship. Pro teams in need of a signal-caller are chomping at the bit to draft the most famous quarterback since, well, his uncles.

However, teams that might choose to tank for Manning are likely going to be disappointed when he decides to run it back at Texas. It would be very ill-advised to lose games on purpose to acquire the No. 1 overall pick for a quarterback who is probably going to stay in college.

And yet, these latest comments re-open that door. A player who was considered off the board as of just a few days ago is right back in the mix for next year because he is focused only on this season.
