Previewing Chiefs-Eagles in Super Bowl LIX

By Brandon Kiley

This will never get old. The NFL world is gathering this week in New Orleans to preview the final game of the 2024 season – a game that will include the Chiefs for the third consecutive season and the fifth time in the past six years.

One game stands between the Chiefs and history. Not even the New England Patriots could accomplish a three-peat. The Philadelphia Eagles are a worthy opponent. These teams met for a classic game in the Super Bowl just two years ago when Harrison Butker kicked the game-winning field goal with just eight seconds left to play.

It shouldn’t shock anyone if this game also comes down to the wire.

The Eagles finished this season ranked near the top 10 in plays, yards and points per drive on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. They also ranked among the top five of the league in turnover rate on both sides of the ball. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.

It feels strange to say when Patrick Mahomes is involved, but it feels as though the biggest matchup in this game will take place when Mahomes is on the sidelines. The Chiefs’ defense has to find a way to force the Eagles out of their typical run-heavy approach and instead force Jalen Hurts to beat them through the air.
