The Indianapolis Colts announced before Sunday’s game that quarterback Anthony Richardson was injured during pregame warmups and would not play. After the game, we found out he wasn’t just inactive, he spent the afternoon at the hospital.

Richardson fractured his orbital bone during pregame after he had an issue with a rubber leg band. You can’t make this up.

Those bands are used to provide resistance to stretch muscles and joints. One of those at full torque slipping off a foot can rebound with painful consequences, if that is indeed what happened here.

Daniel Jones started and finished the game and Riley Leonard served as the backup. Leonard was sixth-round pick in 2025. With the severity of the injury, the Colts will be looking to add another arm in the coming days.

His list of injuries is already extensive despite playing just 17 NFL games. Since joining the NFL, Richardson has missed time due to a concussion (2023 – 1.5 games), AC joint sprain (2023 – three months), hip injury (2024 – 1+ games), back and foot injuries (2024 – two games), another AC joint sprain (2025 OTAs), and a finger dislocation (2025 – preseason).
