Another wide receiver has hit the trade market for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has formally requested a trade, according to a report by NFL Network.
Meyers, 28, reportedly met with the team about seeking a contract extension. He is set to enter the final year of his current deal and is owed $10.5 million in salary this season. Meyers requested a trade after he and the team could not come to an agreement on an extension.
Despite his request, the Raiders are not expected to be excited about trading Meyers, a key part of their offense last season.
In just 15 games, Meyers had 87 catches for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns, eclipsing the thousand-yard mark for the first time in his career and leading all Raiders wide receivers.
Meyers signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Raiders in 2023. He is Owen $10.5 million in base salary plus $476 thousand in roster and workout bonuses. Trading Meyers would create a $4.2 million dead cap hit for the Raiders this season and a $4.3 million dead cap hit next season.
The Steelers are searching for another outside wide receiver to pair with DK Metcalf. They hosted free agent Gabe Davis for a second visit last week, but did not come to terms on a contract. Davis remains a free agent option, and has not signed anywhere after visiting Pittsburgh and the Buffalo Bills last week.
The Steelers could also be mining the waiver wire with roster cuts due on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
