The Pittsburgh Steelers’ options at wide receiver are dwindling with the start of the 2025 season nearing.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still looking to add another wide receiver after trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason. However, yet another potential target now seems to be off the board.
New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard suffered a shoulder injury in the team’s preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers and will be sidelined for a couple of weeks, according to Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press.

The injury puts Lazard’s status for the start of the season up in the air and creates a lot of risk around a potential trade.
Many have tabbed the Steelers as obvious suitors for Lazard, given his connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The two have played together for the past seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2018-22) and Jets (2023-24). During that span, Lazard has recorded 229 catches for 3,077 yards and 27 touchdowns.
However, it’s unclear if the Jets would even be open to moving Lazard with a very underwhelming wide receiver room outside of former first-round pick Garrett Wilson.
That isn’t the only problem, either. The Steelers are also scheduled to face the Jets in Week 1, which could make executing a trade a little more difficult.
So if Pittsburgh wants to acquire Lazard before the start of the season, it will likely have to pay a little extra. That seems much less likely after Lazard’s latest injury, though.
