The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to find their next head coach. The same can’t be said for the Tennessee Titans, who landed on their guy late Monday night.
“ESPN sources: Titans are working to finalize a deal to hire 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their head coach,” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter wrote on X. “Saleh spent Monday in Tennessee with the Titans, and the two sides impressed each other enough to move forward together.”
Saleh spent three-plus seasons (2021-24) as head coach of the New York Jets, coaching Aaron Rodgers before he joined the Steelers last offseason. Before that, he served as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator for four seasons (2017-20). He rejoined Kyle Shanahan’s team after being shown the door in the Big Apple.

Including the Steelers’, six head coaching vacancies remain, five of which are in the AFC. The Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Las Vegas Raiders are still seeking a new leader.
During the past week, the Steelers have completed virtual interviews with Ejiro Evero, Jeff Hafley, Klay Kubiak, Jesse Minter, Nate Scheelhaase, Chris Shula and Anthony Weaver. The Miami Dolphins decided to move forward with Hafley as their next leader on Monday.
The other teams to have already filled their openings are the New York Giants (John Harbaugh) and Atlanta Falcons (Kevin Stefanski). Both Harbaugh and Stefanski coached in the AFC North this season, for the Ravens and Browns, respectively.
