Myles Garrett rumors will swirl all offseason but this one provides Browns fans an interested NFL draft angle
At this point, it seems more likely that DE Myles Garrett will continue to be a member of the Cleveland Browns in 2025 than any other team. That doesn’t mean Garrett won’t be traded, that rumors won’t swirl and many, including us yesterday with a Chicago Bears option, won’t project potential Browns trades.
The outcome just seems like a reunion is most likely.
Shortly after Garrett’s trade request was made public, we completed a mock trade with our Green Bay Packers blog and reviewed four other trade proposals. Every time, the trades just seem to miss the mark somehow. Either too much in Cleveland’s favor, not enough coming back for a star player or salary cap implications get in the way.
Today we look at a proposal from The 33rd Team (the group that helped the New York Jets find their GM and HC this offseason) that also misses the mark but presents an interesting idea:
49ers Receive: Myles Garrett, EDGE
Browns Receive: No. 11, No. 99, and 2026 2nd Round Pick
The trade itself is just a little light for Cleveland especially if the team has a lower value on this year’s NFL draft class. While the eleventh pick is good, it could have the value of a low 20s or early 30s pick compared to last year’s class.
What was a little more interesting was the idea floated that the Browns could then move up, ala the Houston Texans when the selected CJ Stroud and Will Anderson, to pair Shedeur Sanders with Travis Hunter:
Could the Browns do something similar? For example, taking Shedeur Sanders at No. 2 and then immediately adding his former teammate, Travis Hunter, at pick No. 3 or No. 4 via a trade-up? It’s not impossible, but the options would be unlimited for a team that desperately needs a reset.
While Sanders and Hunter are just an example pairing, Cleveland being able to move up to get a second pick in the top six could help the team turn around quickly. Other pairings could be (assuming QB Cam Ward is off the board first):
The different pairings create different levels of excitement. If the Browns go this direction, it would likely include a quarterback with one of the picks (as the Texans did with Stroud). Otherwise, the team would likely keep their assets, instead of moving up, in order to find that QB at a later point, including the 2026 NFL draft.
What do you think of the idea of moving up if the Browns trade Garrett? Any of those pairings (including Sanders and Hunter reuniting) enough to help kickstart a rebuild?
