Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed suffered a broken collarbone in the team’s Thursday Night Football win over the Washington Commanders, leaving the formerly wide receiver-heavy Packers suddenly thin at a position where the Pittsburgh Steelers have been seeking a trading partner.

The Steelers called the Packers earlier this offseason about trading for one of the team’s multitude of wide receivers, but injuries have kept the Green Bay surplus from seeing the field at the same time, and now it seems likely that the Packers won’t get their entire crop of wide receivers together before the 2025 NFL trade deadline.

The Packers have been playing without top wide receiver Christian Watson, who remains on the PUP list after a late-season ACL injury. He cannot return before Week 6. Now Reed will likely 8-12 several weeks with his collarbone injury. The trade deadline is Nov. 4, just after Week 9.

The Packers still have Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and rookies Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, so they’ll have plenty of receivers to see themselves through the pair of injuries. When everyone returns, it will be a logjam, but that probably won’t happen until after the trade deadline at this point.

Even though the Packers are 2-0 and appear to be one of the top contenders in the NFC after trading for Dallas Cowboys defensive superstar Micah Parsons, trading a wide receiver was an attractive option because of the crowded room and the fact that Doubs is in the final season of his contract.

Earlier this week, it was reported that multiple teams had offers on the table for Doubs, and the Steelers very well could have been one of those teams, but it’s now hard to see him traded during the 2025 season with Reed out long-term.

The Steelers and Packers will meet on the field at Acrisure Stadium on Oct. 26, just 10 days before the trade deadline.
