A former running back of the Pittsburgh Steelers is believed to have suffered a serious injury.

Week 3 did not bode well for former Pittsburgh Steelers running backs. Shortly after Los Angeles Chargers’ Najee Harris went down with a serious injury, another former Steelers running back did the same.

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner left their matchup against the San Francisco 49ers with a serious lower leg injury. Dr. Evan Jeffries of Evolving Motion Physical Therapy believes Conner suffered a tibia or fibula fracture or an ankle dislocation.

If that turns out to be true, Conner will be sidelined for an extensive amount of time and maybe even the rest of the 2025 season.

Conner, 30, began his NFL career as a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Steelers. Through his first four years in the league, he compiled 2,302 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground and 161 receptions for 1,338 yards and seven touchdowns.

He then joined the Cardinals after his rookie deal expired in 2021 and he has proven to be a perfect fit since.

In his first year in Arizona, Conner ran for 752 yards and a career-high 15 touchdowns. He also recorded 37 catches for 375 yards and three more scores. That earned him a three-year, $21 million contract extension with the Cardinals.

The following season, Conner’s production took a bit of a dip, finishing with 782 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground as well as 46 catches for 300 yards and one touchdown.

However, Conner has proven to be worth the money and then some over the past two years, posting back-to-back seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

The two-time Pro Bowler will unlikely be able to make it three straight years now due to his injury, though.

A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Conner has rushed for 6,043 yards and 60 touchdowns in his nine-year NFL career.
