As the Los Angeles Rams mull over which players they will be able to extend, and which ones they might not be able to afford, the Green Bay Packers extended defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt to a three-year, $57 million contract on Monday. If that news doesn’t seem that relevant, it should, because Kobie Turner is up for an extension too and he’s a defensive tackle who the Rams may consider on par with Wyatt.
Should Turner cost more, less, or the same as Devonte Wyatt?
A first-round pick out of Georgia in 2022, Wyatt won a national championship and was then added to Green Bay’s defense alongside college teammate Quay Walker. However, Wyatt’s first three seasons were a little bit underwhelming, starting only five games and playing in fewer than 45 percent of the team’s snaps.
Wyatt’s season was somewhat better in 2025, playing in 60 percent of the snaps, but also missing seven games with a broken fibula and a torn ankle ligament.
That didn’t stop the Packers from extending him to a contract that pays $19 million per season.
Clearly the Packers value Wyatt as an integral part of their defensive line and now he’s making almost $20 million AAV. If that’s the case, then how much will Turner want?
Wyatt was set to enter the fifth-year option, so his situation was a little bit different than Turner’s. Green Bay already owed him a lot of money going into a contract year, but Turner’s 2026 salary is only $3.9 million. Wyatt’s was set to be $12.9 million, so that gave him more leverage from a contract standpoint.
Turner has more leverage when you consider their football accomplishments.
Whereas Wyatt has 14.5 sacks and 86 tackles in 41 games since 2023, Turner has 24 sacks and 167 tackles in 51 games over the same period of time.
The best ability is availability.
Turner may instead be looking at Alim McNeill as a baseline, with $24.5 million per season. The Detroit Lions’ defensive tackle doesn’t get as many sacks as Turner, but should be seen as a comparable player.
Can the Rams afford to pay over $25 million for Turner?
With so many outstanding contracts on the Rams’ roster, including almost the entire offensive line and Puka Nacua, L.A. has a difficult decision ahead with Kobie Turner.
He’s productive, but many fans have argued his production is aided by scheme and teammates.
That skepticism won’t be getting any quieter with Myles Garrett on the team…and Aaron Donald possibly joining them next.
The Packers valued Wyatt at $19 million per season, so Turner’s next contract will have to be considerably more than that. Is it something the Rams can afford, or is it something that will cost them too much?
