Analyzing Browns HC Kevin Stefanski’s seat: Is it hot? Should it be?

In life, we all have choices we make. Some good. Some bad.

Yes, the Cleveland Browns are 1-4 right now. Yes, things aren’t looking great right now. Fans are frustrated and most want the team to do something. Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings wasn’t a surprise to me (I picked Minnesota because the game was a coin flip), they had playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, a creative defense and it made a difference at the end. Head coach Kevin Stefanski had a rough day on Sunday. It happens.

Some believe that this particular loss should mean Stefanski should lose his job.

Could firing Stefanski be beneficial for the Browns? Not necessarily.

No one needs to bring up what happened with the Browns last season; we all know what happened. If you have not been paying attention, Cleveland is clearly going through the first year of a rebuild. The worst thing you could do in the first year of a rebuilding season is fire the head coach. I understand why people are frustrated with the head coach, but firing Stefanski will not be beneficial to anyone. It would just be doing something to do something.

“Why are you content with keeping someone who has a combined 4-20 record, dating back to last season?”

Context, like in any argument you have, matters. As mentioned earlier, no one needs to bring up last season and how big a disaster it was. No one predicted them to fall off like they did. However, the team had one of the oldest rosters in the league. On top of that, the offense fell apart the way they did due unstable quarterback play.

Not to mention the multiple injuries the team suffered. Despite the 1-4 start, the team looks better than it did last season. It’s not saying much, but if you look at the other teams around the league who have the same record as the Browns, most of the teams look dysfunctional despite having a better roster than the Browns.

“His inability to build a winning culture is why the Browns are the Browns!“

Since Stefanski was hired by the Browns in 2020, the team has been to the postseason twice, with the furthest they have gone being to the divisional round in 2020. Compare that to previous head coaches and it’s better than what the team had since Marty Schottenheimer. People will roll their eyes at this, but it’s better than being a disaster.

Cleveland has been mediocre at best, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however you want to put it.

“He’s an offensive guru, but the offense has failed to score 20 points going back to last season!”

The offensive situation this season is frustrating. I understand it for sure. However, we aren’t being completely honest about the entire situation as a whole. The entire unit lacks talent. If you want to blame someone for the offense not having some form of talent, general manager Andrew Berry is...
