With Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh out the door, respectively, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens both have head coaching openings. Fox Sports’ Nick Wright believes Harbaugh’s successor will have the more beneficial job.
“The best job is the Ravens,” Wright said last week while ranking all nine of the NFL head coaching positions that opened up across the league. “They’re in a tough cap situation, they’re in a tough division, but they have really good ownership and they have a star quarterback in place, which makes it, obviously, the best job.”
According to Over the Cap, Baltimore has the 17th-most cap space ($13.8 million) in the league for 2026. The Steelers have the ninth-most ($37.9 million). Ravens kicker Tyler Loop missed a field goal that would’ve handed his team the AFC North and a playoff berth, giving Baltimore the No. 14 overall pick in April’s 2026 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh selects with the No. 21 choice.
“No. 2 is the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Wright said. “They have a few extra picks. They’ve had three coaches in 55 years. They’re in a good cap situation that can get even better — and you have stability.”
The Las Vegas Raiders (No. 3), New York Giants (No. 4), Atlanta Falcons (No. 5), Arizona Cardinals (No. 6) and Miami Dolphins (No. 7) followed on Wright’s list. He considered the Cleveland Browns’ job to be the worst of the bunch, with the Tennessee Titans right behind.
The Falcons and Giants have both filled their openings with guys who led AFC North teams this season. Kevin Stefanski took over for Atlanta, while Harbaugh will be steering Big Blue next fall.
