The Philadelphia Eagles won their second Vince Lombardi Trophy on Sunday by embarrassing the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX, and the party has begun in the Delaware Valley region.

But for the Eagles, the quest for back-to-back world championships has also begun, and they must remain one step ahead of the rest of the league, even though they possess the best roster in football.

Their defense was arguably the biggest reason they won it all, and a couple of their biggest movers and shakers on that side of the football are about to become free agents.

ESPN’s Mina Kimes said the Eagles should prioritize re-signing outside linebacker Zack Baun because it would be hard for a rookie linebacker to break into defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s rotation and contribute right away.

“Zack Baun is the player I would prioritize if I’m the Philadelphia Eagles, in part because they have shown such a demonstrated ability to draft and develop in the defensive line. … It’s very hard at that particular position for a rookie to come in and play the way he did.”

The Eagles signed Baun as a free agent this past offseason, and he responded to his new surroundings by leading them in combined and solo tackles while recording 11 tackles for loss and five quarterback hits.

He was named to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro First Team for the first time in his career as a result of his excellent play.

Versus Kansas City in the Super Bowl, he had seven total tackles (three solo), one quarterback hit, one pass defended and one interception.

Philly finished the regular season second in points allowed and first in total yards given up, and the 22 points they allowed in the Super Bowl don’t exactly tell the story of how they mucked up the Chiefs, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw two interceptions and was sacked six times.

They were able to harass Mahomes into a bad game even though they rushed only four men and didn’t really blitz throughout the contest.
