With the 2025 NFL schedule released on Wednesday night, fans across the globe have started preparing for their travel arrangements this fall. To help accommodate Steelers Nation, American Airlines is adding special flights and larger aircraft aimed at bringing more Steelers fans to their home team’s away games, according to Paul J. Gough of the Pittsburgh Business Times.
There will be a special “fan flight” leaving Pittsburgh on Nov. 7 to Los Angeles for the Steelers-Chargers game on Sunday Night Football in Week 9. There also will be a red-eye flight to Pittsburgh after the Nov. 9 game.
American Airlines said the extra flights add more than 22,000 seats. In addition, American said it would have four daily flights to Dublin, Ireland, in September, from Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago and Charlotte.
The Steelers-Vikings game on Sept. 28 will be the first NFL regular season game ever played in Ireland.
“American knows that fans want to be in the stadiums where legends are made and memories are cherished,” American’s Managing Director of Global Network Planning Jason Reisinger said in a statement. “Just as the players get ready to step onto the field with confidence, fans can confidently step on board an American flight they booked as part of our largest-ever fall football schedule.”
American Airlines is also adding special flights for Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State fans to their home team’s away games this football season.
The Steelers-Vikings game will be a historic event on many fronts. Steelers president Art Rooney II said the demand for the Ireland game has been tremendous.
“We had a little bit of input, not a lot in terms of the date and our opponent in Ireland, but we’re happy with how the game fell (on the schedule) and where it falls on the calendar. And the great thing is that the ticket demand is already through the roof. We’re going to have a great Steelers crowd in Dublin,” Rooney told Missi Matthews of Steelers.com.
The Steelers will travel 15,062 miles this season, which ranks as the ninth-fewest in the league.
In addition to Dublin, the Steelers will travel to East Rutherford, N.J., Foxborough, Mass., Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit and Cleveland this season. They’ll also travel to Jacksonville and Charlotte in the preseason.
