No team has allowed more points through the first four games of the season than the Baltimore Ravens. They’re allowing a ridiculous 33.3 points per game, which makes one wonder how they even have a win.
Yet, the Ravens’ defense wasn’t supposed to look like this. For one, they’re now missing several starters from the lineup, including Pro Bowlers Nnamdi Madubuike and Roquan Smith. Madubuike is out for the season, and Smith is expected to miss several weeks with a hamstring strain.
Yet, the Ravens have tried to find some reinforcements. On Tuesday, they brought in former All-Pro linebacker Eric Kendricks for a workout. If the workout went well, expectations were that he’d be either added to the practice squad or the active roster, but that isn’t the case.
Uniquely enough, it was actually Kendricks who turned down an opportunity to join the Ravens’ practice squad, not the other way around.
To be clear, Kendricks is a free agent. Any team can sign him, but he still doesn’t have a job. So seeing him reject the Ravens, who have a clear short-term need at the position, comes as a bit of a surprise.
Though Kendricks had actually been recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, he now feels healthy again. That is likely why we’re just hearing that he got his first workout with a team this week. More are likely on the way.
The Vikings, Chargers, and Cowboys are all teams to watch for Kendricks, as he’s already played for each of the respective franchises before. Yet, it’s possible the 33-year-old is placing a heavy emphasis on joining a playoff contender since he’s yet to win a Super Bowl ring.
