Drake Maye earned major recognition from one of the NFL’s premier defensive stars.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner gave Maye his flowers on his new “Real Ones” show. The four-time All-Pro, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury last month, is impressed by the New England Patriots quarterback.

“Hats off to Drake Maye,” Warner said. “I think, one of the best deep-throw passers in the league. It speaks to his level of processing ability to be able to play at such a high level this early on.”

Warner believes the best NFL quarterbacks are those who can quickly diagnose defensive coverages and process information on the field. The 28-year-old already sees those traits in Maye, who has catapulted into the MVP conversation amid New England’s 9-2 start.

“As a young player, that’s how I know he’s working — things are working upstairs at a high pace for him to have this type of success this early,” Warner said. “And so, obviously, the sky’s the limit for him. Especially if he wins MVP in his second season. I know he doesn’t care about any of that, but that’s a huge deal.”

Maye improved his MVP case by completing 25 of 34 passes for 281 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night’s win over the New York Jets. He has a 113.2 quarterback rating, 71.9 completion percentage and 8.9 yards per attempt for the AFC East leaders.

Maye will look to inch closer to that sky-high ceiling when leading New England into a Week 12 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
