It’s not April Fools. This is actually happening. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that three-time All-Pro center Frank Ragnow, who retired back in June, is coming out of retirement for the Detroit Lions. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that “he’s in shape and ready to roll sooner, rather than later.”

Notably, the Lions’ current center, Graham Glasgow, has been a non-participant in walkthroughs this week (Detroit has yet to announce its Wednesday participation). So will Ragnow play on Thanksgiving? Your guess is as good as mine, but there is an opening at the center position, and Ragnow already knows the system in Detroit.

For what it’s worth, here’s how our sister site Pride of Detroit covered the news:

“Ragnow’s return comes as a huge development for a Lions team that could use some serious help on the offensive line.

It’s unclear when Ragnow is expected to be activated and when he’ll be ready to play, but he will certainly be a big help for a Lions team that needs to win at least three or four of their remaining six games.“

Keep an eye out for more news about Ragnow as we get closer to kickoff. Remember, inactives are posted 90 minutes before the game starts, so the Lions will have to at least announce whether Ragnow will dress down or not by then.

Update: Schefter is now reporting that Ragnow’s “first chance” to play this year will be against the Dallas Cowboys next week, adding that it’s considered “unlikely” that he’ll play before December 14th. So we don’t have to worry about him tomorrow against the Green Bay Packers.
