You’re probably familiar with the story of the 10-year-old boy who was struck by debris from the plane that crashed on Cottman Avenue a few weeks back. Trey Howard and his family were leaving the Dunkin Donuts across the street when the jet came down, and he covered his sister to protect her inside of their car. He was taken to CHOP for emergency brain surgery, woke up, and asked about the Super Bowl. A.J. Brown saw the story and said he’d visit Trey after the Birds won it:
“He kept his word!”

See, this is what it’s all about. A boy plays hero during a tragedy and doctors are there for the emergency surgery. A pro football player sees it, makes a promise, and keeps it after his team goes out and throttles the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The story writes itself.
By the way, the fundraiser for Trey was near $65,000 two weeks ago, with a goal to raise $80,000. A glance at the Go Fund Me page shows that donors have now kicked in $193,000, which will cover medical costs.
