Addition of Parsons Alters Steelers’ Week 8 Matchup vs. Packers

To say the least, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 8 game against the Packers got a lot tougher with Green Bay acquiring All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade with Dallas on Thursday. The line moved from a pick em to the Packers as 2-point road favorites.

At FanDuel Sportsbook, the Packers’ odds to win the Super Bowl jumped from +1700 to +1220. They are now tied for the fifth-best odds, behind the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

The Steelers’ offensive tackles Troy Fautanu and Broderick Jones performed well in the preseason, but the intensity will obviously increase wants the regular season begins. And there are a slew of elite edge rushers on the schedule. In addition to Parsons, the Steelers tackles will face Trey Hendrickson (twice), Myles Garrett (twice), Will McDonald, Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel and Aidan Hutchinson.

Jones will be protecting 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ blindside this season. For Jones, he’s just focused on his job and not the outside noise, however.

“I think football is football. They can put Coach [Tomlin] back there. My job is still to block for him,” Jones said.

Last year, the Packers defense ranked sixth in points per drive, third in 6th EPA/play and 21st in success rate. They’ll be even better now with Parsons and All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney, who was acquired in free agency. On paper, Green Bay’s defense will present a massive challenge for the Steelers in Week 8.

The storylines for the Steelers-Packers showdown on Sunday Night Football will be endless.

Rodgers can become one of five quarterbacks in NFL history to beat all 32 teams with a win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 8 at Acrisure Stadium. It will be Rodgers’ first meeting against his former team since departing Green Bay after the 2022 season.

With a win over the Packers, Rodgers will join Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees on the all-time list of QBs to beat all 32 NFL teams.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur hasn’t contacted Rodgers since the Green Bay legend signed with the Steelers, but he “totally anticipated” playing against him this fall.

“It’ll be a great challenge for us. I’m sure he’ll be telling everybody all our signals, so we’ll probably have to be playing that mind game a little bit,” LaFleur said in June, via Ryan Wood of USA Today.

The Steelers will also wear their 1933 throwback uniforms against the Packers in Week 8.

“We’re excited to unveil our new throwback uniforms which not only pay tribute to the origins of the Steelers franchise but also to the deep connection we have to our hometown of Pittsburgh,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said. “It’s especially fitting that we’ll debut these uniforms on Sunday night, October 26 when we play the Green Bay Packers – another franchise in the league with a long and rich history.”

The Steelers last wore their 1933 throwback uniforms in 1994. This time,...
