Adding an 18th NFL game has disaster written all over it
Inside The Star Inside The Star

Well, unless you live under a rock, you once again saw how brutal this week of football was for injuries once again.

It feels like we continue to say this week in and week out, and why Roger Goodell still wants to entertain an 18th game. I have no idea.

Last year, NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell revealed the players association had been involved in informal talks regarding an 18-game schedule.

If they add this, it will be nothing but a disaster for the league and the players.

Injuries

Just last week, we saw the likes of Micah Parsons and Patrick Mahomes both have their year cut short due to a torn ACL. Oh, and let’s not forget about Daniel Jones blowing out his achilles.

The amount of injuries and bad football being played right now is insane.

And the fact that the NFL wants to add an 18th game is mind boggling.

Gardner Minshew took over the starting job for Mahomes, and guess what happened to him on the third play of the game yesterday?

Yup, he tore his ACL as well.

Lamar Jackson, in the biggest game of the season last night, got hurt late in the first half when he took a knee to the back, as these games for the players are a grind, yet adding an 18th is a disaster waiting to happen.

I understand that you want to keep adding international games and that would be the ideal spot for the 18th, but at some point you have to look around and see what is happening.

I love the NFL just as much as the next person, but the amount of players getting hurt is just not worth adding an extra. It’s all about the money, sure, say whatever you want.

The ONLY way it would work is if they added a second bye week and used Thursday games off bye weeks to get some 10 days rest. Then the season would end on President’s Day weekend. I would hate having teams have two bye weeks, though.

Keep things the way they are. We have seen enough injuries to great players to want to add any more risk to these guys. Heck, they hardly get enough time off to let their body recover as it is, this does not make any sense.

Let’s see what happens with the talks this offseason, but this is more about getting other countries involved with games than anything, and adding an extra is a way to do that and bring more money to the league that already makes plenty as it is.
