Houston hired from the McVay/Shanahan/LaFleur coaching tree, but Stenavich was not their pick.
As the NFL’s season of coaching changes begins to wind down, Adam Stenavich looks more and more likely to return to the Green Bay Packers in his current role as offensive coordinator under head coach Matt LaFleur.
Stenavich has interviewed for multiple offensive coordinator positions this season, all of which would have come with playcalling duties. The latest news about Stenavich came over the weekend when Aaron Wilson reported that he was going to interview with the Houston Texans, a job that will be on the headset because head coach DeMeco Ryans makes the calls for the defense. However, the Texans have now filled the job, hiring someone out from under one of LaFleur’s close friends instead.
That individual is Nick Caley, who has been the Los Angeles Rams’ tight ends coach for the last two seasons and also served as their passing game coordinator in 2024.
Caley, 42, also coached tight ends for the New England Patriots for several years under Bill Belichick. This will be his first chance at calling offensive plays anywhere, as he jumped to the Patriots after bouncing around the college ranks as a graduate assistant and defensive secondary coach.
With the Texans’ job filled, there are only two offensive coordinator jobs remaining vacant, but it appears that Stenavich will not interview for either one. The Jacksonville Jaguars’ job is vacant, but the OC there will not call plays as their new head coach Liam Coen will do so. The only other open job is in the New Orleans Saints organization, but that team has yet to hire a new head coach. One prominent theory is that the Saints intend to hire Philadelphia Eagles OC Kellen Moore to be their head coach, and if that takes place, Moore would presumably call plays in New Orleans as well.
That leaves Stenavich likely to return to Green Bay for a fourth season as the Packers’ coordinator, a job he received after Luke Getsy departed in order to take playcalling duties with the Chicago Bears. However, Getsy is back in Green Bay now as a senior assistant, and will likely be working heavily with Stenavich and the rest of the team’s offensive coaching staff.
