Adam Schefter Says the Eagles are Not Trading A.J. Brown

From a draft intel article on ESPN.com, Adam Schefter says “contrary to internet speculation, the Eagles are not trading A.J. Brown.” In the same article, Schefter says you can expect the Eagles to be active in this year’s draft since they have 20 picks over the next two years:

“No team is in a better position to make them this week than the Eagles. They own 20 selections over the next two drafts — more than the actual number of players who can make their team. Therefore, they have added bargaining power should they try to trade for available veterans — a certain possibility during the draft — or if they decide in a less-likely scenario that they want to move up.

Moving up is what they’ve consistently done in the past. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman traded up in 2019 to get offensive tackle Andre Dillard, in 2021 to get wide receiver DeVonta Smith, in 2022 to get defensive lineman Jordan Davis and in 2023 to get Jalen Carter, Davis’ college teammate. With the added pick firepower, Philadelphia is armed to make more trades, but deals for veterans instead of moving up in Round 1 are considered more likely.

Schefty just ruined sports radio in two major markets this week. Boston and Philly are going to have to find something to come up with to fill four days of programming until Thursday. Of course, if you just Googled A.J. Brown’s dead cap hit if the Eagles were to trade him, you’d know that this was never going to happen, but don’t let facts get in the way of a good narrative! It’s Friday. Would you rather talk about the Phillies bullpen issues ad nauseam or the Eagles pick at #32? Of course not! It’s almost summer! Find a way to kill the four hours before you can head down to the ballpark and drink some Miller Lites. Drum up some controversy and get the phones ringing.

Make up some rumors from a little birdie for all I care:

The Eagles will be wheeling and dealing all weekend and I can’t wait to see how it all goes down! The Eagles’ behind the scenes from the NFL Draft is going to be must watch. You think Howie pulling the strings for Cooper DeJean made you feel anxious last year just wait until he has 20 picks at his disposal:
