The Patriots got an early start to the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday when they reportedly sent Keion White to the San Francisco 49ers and Kyle Dugger to the Pittsburgh Steelers. But could more moves be on the way before next Tuesday’s deadline?
Adam Schefter believes so. In fact, the ESPN NFL insider forecasted potential Patriots trades during Tuesday’s “The Pat McAfee Show” episode.
“I could see the Patriots making a move here,” Schefter said. “Whether it’s for a defensive back, whether it’s for another running back for a little bit of running back depth. Whether it’s for another wide receiver, although those wide receivers are playing really well right now.
“I can see New England saying, ‘Hey, we’re in this great spot right now. We got a chance to beat Buffalo for the division. We got a chance to host a home playoff game. I wouldn’t be surprised if New England made a move here before the deadline.”
Schefter mentioned safety, running back and wide receiver as potential areas of need, but you can add linebacker, edge rusher and even tight end to that list. The Patriots have starting-caliber players all over the field, but they have questionable depth at multiple spots.
Regardless, Schefter clearly knows something. He said he’d “bet” that Dugger would be traded, and a deal happened hours later. So, Patriots fans have every reason to get their hopes up before the trade deadline.
