Adam Peters and Dan Quinn speak to the media before veterans report to training camp

Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters and head coach spoke to the media this morning before veterans report for the start of training camp in Ashburn, VA. Peters said he expects all the players to report today, including WR Terry McLaurin who has been holding out for a new contract. They’re going to do everything they can to get a deal done, but deals like this can get complicated. Peters was the assistant GM with the 49ers when they dealt with holdouts by Nick Bosa and Trent Williams that didn’t end in a new deal until September. He said he wasn’t directly involved in those negotiations, but he was aware of the process and the issues involved.

Peters was asked about signing Von Miller, and also being the NFL’s oldest team. He said the team always planned to add another pass rusher. Deals didn’t happen with other players, but they were going to circle back before the start of training camp. Peters said Miller’s play on the field speaks for itself, and he’s incredible in the locker room. They plan to add players that can help the team this season, and going forward.

Dan Quinn is looking forward to seeing some of the second-year players develop, and he mentioned Javontae Jean-Baptiste and Brandon Coleman. He’s been impress with Coleman’s work at guard after playing left tackle during his rookie season. Quinn talked about Jayden Daniels and Mike Sainristil correcting issues during the season, and they self-correct faster. Quinn was asked what he’s looking for from his QB going into into his second year: “More growth. The skill work, the techniques, the knowledge of the offense, all of those things are going to be enhanced.”
