Former Pittsburgh Steelers guard Ramon Foster and defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko both weighed in on the NFL’s decision to not hold a supplemental draft this summer, which leaves quarterback Brendan Sorsby having to wait until the 2027 NFL Draft to possibly get a crack at the league.
The NFL made it clear that they have no tolerance for gambling. Sorsby placed more than 9,000 bets totaling at least $90,000 across a four-year span. Court documents revealed that during his time at Indiana alone, he placed at least 2,900 bets, which included 40 impermissible wagers on his own football team.
“Told yall, the nfl just can’t allow it. Sucks for Sorsby and his camp but we are all given warnings in those compliance meetings in college,” Foster wrote on X.
On the other hand, Fehoko thinks the NFL’s punishment is too severe.
“It’s actually hilarious that they’ll outlaw you for gambling, but you can legit get arrested for hitting women and being reckless behind the wheel, and it’s fine,” Fehoko wrote on X.
Brendan Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns at Cincinnati last year, while also rushing for 580 yards and another nine scores. His 36 total touchdowns were tied for third in the nation. He transferred to Texas Tech this offseason before getting wrapped up in a gambling scandal.
Kalshi’s prediction markets had the Steelers as the favorites to land Sorsby.
NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay thought the Steelers would have been an ideal landing spot for Sorsby.
“Can’t you see the Steelers?” McShay said on The McShay Show. “Because the Steelers have been mired in this, we’re good enough every year. We’re right on the fringe. We’re either in the playoffs, getting knocked out early or we just miss the playoffs. So we’re always picking around 21 or 23 or 25, so we can’t get that guy. … This is a unique opportunity for the Steelers. I’m just throwing it out there.”
