UNITY TWP., Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers will close training camp with their final full practice session on Tuesday at St. Vincent College. The club will break camp on Wednesday and return to Pittsburgh for a joint practice on Thursday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

You can count Steelers quarterback a fan of the St. Vincent experience.

Rodgers spoke with the media on Tuesday before his final practice, and called St. Vincent a “special place” that he’ll miss.

“As much as I look forward to my bed and not have to worry about bed bugs at times, I’ll miss this experience,” he said. “It’s really special to make this walk down the hill every day and see the fans and the crowd, even when it’s a hot day like today. It’s pretty special.”

Rogers said that he’s especially grateful for the relationships he’s been able to build with his teammates away from the game.

“Mike [Tomlin] talks about it being things that you can’t measure,” Rodgers said. “I have the times in the caf with the guys and find different guys to get to know, have lunch with. And then the night times over the dorms where you’re talking football, talking life, playing cards, whatever it is, playing video games. I forgot how to play video games, but I had to remember just to connect with those guys. I’ll definitely miss those times.”

Rodgers is of course, here to play quarterback and learn the offense. But he understands that he’s going to be seen as a leader of the team, whether he wants to be or not, because of the resume he walked in the door with as a four-time MVP.

“A lot of guys are maybe shy to come up to you, so you’ve got to break the ice often with them,” he said. “Some of it is just like going down and sitting next to them at lunch and they kind of go, what the hell are you doing here? I’m having lunch, what are you doing here? But I think that’s part of it. You gotta find ways to break the ice with those guys.”
