Rodgers refutes reports he wants to move on.
It has been a difficult season for the New York Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The team sits at 3-8, far outside the Playoff race. Both the head coach and the general manager have been fired in season.
There have been reports speculating about Rodgers’ future, including one last week from The Athletic suggesting that he wants to play for a different team in 2025.
Rodgers (sort of) denied the reports doing his weekly segment on The Pat McAfee Show.
That isn’t exactly a guarantee. As Rodgers notes, some of it is beyond his control. The Jets need to want him back if he is to return for a third season.
What I found notable was his comment at the end that he isn’t sure yet he wants to play in 2025. It’s not that the statement is any sort of surprise. He is 40 and clearly at the end of his career. When a season goes this poorly at such an advanced football age, it is natural to think retirement is a real possibility. Still, this is a shift from Rodgers’ position just two weeks ago that he plans to return next year. At the very least, it seems like Rodgers is moving closer to deciding to retire.
