Quarterback Aaron Rodgers likes what he is seeing from one of the Pittsburgh Steelers young wide receivers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting for one of their wide receivers to establish themselves as the No. 2 option opposite DK Metcalf in their offense. However, quarterback Aaron Rodgers likes what he’s seeing from one of the Steelers’ young playmakers.
Rodgers couldn’t help but praise second-year wide receiver Roman Wilson, who has continued to carve out a bigger role for himself over the past several weeks.
“Rome’s a great kid. He’s been playing really well the last few weeks. I’m proud of him. He’s been practicing the right way. He’s been growing and working on his craft. He’s so damn fast,” Rodgers said. “Ro and Cal (Calvin Astin) are such great dudes. They want to do right by me and Arthur (Smith) and the offense. I’ve got nothing but love and appreciation for those guys.”
Pittsburgh selected Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but he was lost for the majority of his rookie season after suffering an ankle injury during the first padded practice of training camp.
Wilson finally returned to action for the Steelers in Week 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders, but he earned just five snaps and never recorded a statistic.
On Oct. 28, Wilson was placed on the Reserve/Injured List due to a hamstring injury and remained on it for the rest of his rookie season.
Wilson has been writing a different story this season, though. Following Pittsburgh’s Week 5 bye, he has gotten more and more opportunities on offense, racking up 11 catches for 159 yards and two touchdowns over the past six weeks.
In the team’s Week 11 win against the Cincinnati Bengals, Wilson logged the second-most snaps (37) among the Steelers wide receivers, behind only Metcalf (56).

Only time will tell if that trend will continue. However, Wilson seems to be making the most of his opportunities and impressing Pittsburgh’s veterans while doing so.
A native of Kihei, Hawaii, Wilson played college football at Michigan, where he recorded 48 catches for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns while helping the Wolverines win a College Football National championship in 2023.
