When the Pittsburgh Steelers traded for DK Metcalf, it had some people believing they could have one of the best wide receiver tandems in the NFL. Yet, shortly after the 2025 NFL Draft concluded, the Steelers traded their other star receiver, George Pickens, to the Dallas Cowboys.
That left the Steelers with a hole at the No. 2 receiver spot, and it left many wondering why Pittsburgh traded Pickens without getting a very strong return. For the record, the Steelers received a 2026 third-round pick in exchange for Pickens.
But why did the Steelers trade Pickens in the first place?
According to ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers’ decision to trade Pickens may have been made in part because they weren’t sure how he’d mesh with Rodgers.
While the Steelers were ready to move on from Pickens, the Cowboys were eager to take the chance on the possibly disgruntled receiver. Now, instead of the Steelers having one of the top receiver tandems in the NFL, it’s the Cowboys who are excited about pairing CeeDee Lamb with Pickens, hoping their offense can get back to being a top-five scoring unit.
