Aaron Rodgers Looks Forward to Finishing Career ‘the Right Way’ with Steelers
Steelers Now Steelers Now

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed on The Pat McAfee Show last month that this season likely will be the final one

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is it,” Rodgers said. “ You know, that’s why we just did a one-year deal. The Steelers didn’t need to put any extra years on that or anything, so this was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I’ve had. I mean, I’ve played 20 freaking years. It’s been a long run and I’ve enjoyed it. What better place to finish than (with) one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL.”

Rodgers is on the verge of breaking several NFL milestones in his 21st season. He needs just 1,337 passing yards to surpass Ben Roethlisberger for the fifth-most all-time, and needs six passing touchdowns to surpass Brett Favre for fourth-most all-time.

The significant milestones could have played a part in Rodgers making one last run. But the main thing seems to be that he didn’t want to leave on a bad note, as his two-year tenure with the New York Jets was an absolute disaster. He also gets a chance to play for a historic franchise and a future Hall of Fame head coach in Mike Tomlin.

During an interview with NBC Sports at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship on Sunday, Rodgers explained what he’s most excited about heading into his 21st season in the NFL. Ending his career on a positive note and playing for Mike Tomlin are a part of the equation.

“Well, I just like the newness of it all,” Rodgers said. “I’m excited about being such at a such great franchise with the Hall of Fame head coach and [Mike Tomlin] and I’ve enjoyed getting to know Arthur Smith, our coordinator, the quarterback coach actually was in my quarterbacks room a million years ago. I’ve known Tom Arth since we were young kids without any gray. So it’s fun.

“It’s a good quarterbacks room. It’s good leadership in the locker room. Great fan base, and I’m just excited to get back out there and finish it the right way.”

Rodgers can become one of five quarterbacks in NFL history to beat all 32 teams with a win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 8 at Acrisure Stadium. It will be Rodgers’ first meeting against his former team since departing Green Bay after the 2022 season.

The storylines for the Steelers-Packers showdown on Sunday Night Football will be endless.

Rodgers will also have a revenge game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in Week 1. He’ll also face former NFC North foes the Bears in Chicago (Week 12) and the Lions in Detroit (Week 16), while his meeting against the Minnesota Vikings will take place in...
