Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has his new teammates feeling very optimistic following their workout in Malibu.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently hosted several of his new playmakers down in Malibu for a workout, and it’s safe to say they came away very impressed.
Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III was among those in attendance and he couldn’t help but praise the four-time NFL MVP’s knowledge of the game.
“His mindset is, ‘We’re going to do this because I know what the defense is gonna do and they don’t wanna do this.’ You see that experience, and playing with a Hall of Fame quarterback, it’s gonna be special. Sometimes, you can be given too much,” Austin said to Action News 5. “But he lets you play football.”
That’s exactly the reason why Pittsburgh signed Rodgers this offseason. The team is aware that the 41-year-old’s best football is behind him, but his football IQ could still be enough to elevate the rest of the offense.
Austin clearly thinks that is the case, or is at least hoping it is. He is heading into the final year of his rookie deal and is looking to have his best season yet with a payday on the horizon.
Last season, Austin continued to trend in the right direction, recording a career-high 36 catches for 548 yards and four touchdowns.
The fourth-year wide receiver is set to have an even bigger role in 2025 after the Steelers traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May.
However, Austin isn’t the only player who’s hoping Rodgers can help take their game to the next level. Wide receivers DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek as well as tight end Pat Freiermuth were also in Malibu building a rapport with Rodgers.
Either way, Rodgers has brought some much-needed life back into Pittsburgh’s offense ahead of what is yet another all-in year for the team.
