PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers joked during his media availability on Wednesday “that the only tackle I had the other night was Broderick.”

Rodgers gave left tackle Broderick Jones an ear full for tackling him during a touchdown celebration following Pat Freiermuth’s 68-yard catch-and-run score against the Cincinnati Bengals in Thursday night’s 33-31 loss.

Rodgers’ strike to Freiermuth gave the Steelers a 31-30 lead with 2:21 remaining in the game. After the touchdown, Rodgers did his vintage arm pump celebration. Jones then came from behind and foolishly tackled Rodgers.

Rodgers was not happy with his young left tackle but it’s a moment that they laugh about now.

“Brod is always the first one to come find me after a play,” Rodgers said. “It could be the first big pass down to DK on third down. He’s coming and dapping me up. What you don’t see in the video is right after the throw he is coming over to me and shaking me and shaking me. Like I texted him ‘hey man, I love your energy. I love everything you are about, but also, I’m 41. You can’t be out there tackling me like that. I love Brod. We had a couple of laughs about it.”

Rodgers joked, “I told him, I’m getting him next. He better watch his back.”

On Monday, Jones responded to the moment that went viral.

“We’re still joking about it,” Jones said. “Yeah, he was a little mad but it’s all right. You know, it’s football. It gets intense. It’s still no love lost. It’s just the energy that he brings and that I bring. He told me don’t lose the fire and I told him the same. We shall see on Sunday after he throws another touchdown, I might tackle him again.”

Jones, of course, was just joking on that final part.

“I don’t want to put him on blast, but the way Broderick described it on the field versus what we seen on the video is so funny,” Steelers right tackle Troy Fautanu said on Monday.

Jones having an energetic personality is just who he is.

“You can’t blame the guy,” Fautanu said. “It’s high emotions. In the heat of the moment, Muth made a play and scored a touchdown. Can’t get mad at the guy.”
