The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense had its best day of training camp on Tuesday. A big reason for that was Aaron Rodgers having his best day as a Steeler thus far, throwing three touchdowns in seven shots, one of which was a vintage Rodgers throw to Roman Wilson. Rodgers sidearmed a pass through a tight window to fit it to Wilson in the back of the end zone.
The Steelers are counting on a big bounce-back year from the second-year receiver from Michigan, who missed practically all of his rookie season due to injury. Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Rodgers spoke about Wilson, and urged him to not think so much and just be himself on the field.
“I need to get Roman out of his own head a bit,” Rodgers said. “He cares so much about whether it’s my approval or he’s doing it right. He’s just got to trust himself because he’s so damn talented.”
Wilson was the No. 5 wideout on the Steelers’ first depth chart of the year, which made several people question the belief the Steelers have in him. However, don’t read too much into it. Kaleb Johnson was RB3 on the depth chart, and that certainly won’t be how things shape out.
In terms of Wilson’s play, he had a tremendous day on Wednesday and has had a solid camp thus far. He will be one of the players we all keep an eye on during Saturday’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
