Aaron Rodgers’ future has reportedly been decided, just a few days after veteran coach Mike Tomlin stepped down as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ leader. Tomlin spent 19 years with the Steelers, but it all came to an end on Tuesday.
Hours after the Houston Texans eliminated Pittsburgh from the 2025 NFL playoffs, Tomlin decided to end his tenure with the AFC North franchise. Tomlin posted a 193-114-2 record over 19 years, including two trips to the Super Bowl (1-1) and five 12-win seasons.
Rodgers reportedly became emotional upon learning about Tomlin’s decision. The 42-year-old quarterback was heard sobbing and repeatedly telling Tomlin, “I’m sorry.” After a season with the Steelers, his future remained a mystery.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that Aaron Rodgers isn’t expected to return to the Steelers in 2026. As team owner Art Rooney noted in the week, he arrived in Pittsburgh to play under Mike Tomlin. Without the veteran on the sideline, it may have been the end of his career.
“I would not expect him to return to Pittsburgh now that Mike Tomlin is not back,” Rapoport said. “What opportunities would Rodgers actually take for another season is a very real question. We may have seen the last of Rodgers in the NFL.”

Aaron Rodgers played 16 games in 2025, going 327 of 498 for 3,322 yards and 24 touchdowns with seven interceptions. The Steelers reclaimed the AFC North throne, but they couldn’t do much against the Houston Texans in the wild card.
