Aaron Rodgers’ former teammate James Jones believes there’s a new team that could sign the veteran quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers’ former Green Bay Packers teammate James Jones believes a new threat to the Pittsburgh Steelers has emerged.

Jones thinks the New Orleans Saints are now very much in play to sign Rodgers following the surprise retirement by quarterback Derek Carr.

“The call should have been made when Derek Carr said, ‘Hey, man, I’m not feeling this shoulder and it’s time for me to be with my wife and kids,” Jones said on FS1’s “The Facility.” “They should have been calling Aaron Rodgers. If Aaron Rodgers walked into the New Orleans building right now, he’s the best quarterback in the division and gives you a chance to win. They absolutely should make the call to Aaron Rodgers and ask, ‘What’s your plan?’ If you come over here, you’re in the dome. The division is weak, and you have a chance.”

Before Carr decided to hang up his cleats, it was difficult to argue against the Steelers having the worst quarterback room in the NFL. However, the Saints now have a strong case for themselves.

With Carr retired, New Orleans’ quarterback room now features second-round rookie Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener. That could make it desperate enough to enter the Rodgers sweepstakes.

If that’s true, the Saints would have a case to make to Rodgers. New Orleans is in a much weaker division and overall conference, which could be very enticing for the 41-year-old who is likely looking to make one last run at a championship.

Pittsburgh also recently traded away wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, making its arsenal of weapons less attractive.

With that said, the Steelers have reportedly maintained dialogue with Rodgers and remain confident they will eventually land him.

Until Rodgers officially makes a decision, though, the idea of him going to the Saints can’t be ruled out.
