Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has big expectations for one of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receivers.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are still looking to potentially add another wide receiver before the start of the 2025 regular season, but quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t so sure that is necessary.
The four-time NFL MVP is very high on Steelers second-year wide receiver Roman Wilson and the impact he can make this season.
“Wouldn’t say anything if we just thought he was gonna be a guy, just any guy that you can throw in,” Rodgers said. “But I think he has a chance to be a big-time talent in the league, so we’re gonna hold him to a high standard. I’m really happy with the way he’s played, but we’re gonna hold him to a standard of excellence that I think he’s capable of reaching.”
Wilson has impressed in Pittsburgh’s first two preseason games, racking up four catches for 96 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, after missing most of his rookie season with injuries, Rodgers knows Wilson still has a long way to go before reaching the growing expectations of those around him.
“I think he’s improving every day,” Rodgers said. “You look at his game the other night, he had a few splash plays, but we’re gonna coach him hard, his receiver coach, (Tom) Arth, myself, on the details because the details are what make the difference. Even though he had a couple big plays, we’ve got some room for improvement there.”
The Steelers selected Wilson with the No. 84 overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Michigan. He broke out during his senior season with a career-high 48 catches for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns.
If Wilson can find similar success at the next level, which Rodgers thinks he’s capable of, he could prove to be the perfect complement to DK Metcalf in Pittsburgh’s pass attack.
