The Pittsburgh Steelers got one of their biggest wins of the season on Sunday. Pittsburgh smashed Indianapolis 27-20 in a game where the Steelers’ defense clearly came in ready to play. One Steelers player explained what was different about Sunday’s game that helped contribute to the big win.
Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers gave Jalen Ramsey credit for a fiery speech that he gave before Sunday’s big win over the Colts.
“Jalen Ramsey gave an impassioned speech to the Steelers last night, one that Aaron Rodgers commended him for and said could’ve been a turning point for the defense this week,” Rodgers said per Steelers reporter Brian Batko on Sunday. “He said he felt that urgency even on the offensive side.”
It is no surprise that Pittsburgh’s defense felt like they needed to make a statement in Week 9.
The Steelers have struggled on defense during the 2025 season despite going all in to add talent this offseason. In fact, Pittsburgh has allowed 30+ points in four games this season. They are 1-3 in those games.
It is great to see that Pittsburgh responded to Ramsey’s message, especially because it led to a signature win.
Now the challenge is carrying that momentum into next week.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin does not want his team getting too excited after Sunday’s win.
Tomlin attempted to pump the brakes on the hype surrounding the Steelers after beating the Colts on Sunday.
“We’re still the same group that stunk it up last week. That’s football,” Tomlin said.
Tomlin clearly does not want his team to remember being embarrassed by the Packers last week. He seems to understand that the Steelers have not earned their hype yet because they are not playing at a consistently high level.
For example, Pittsburgh’s offense struggled against a good Indianapolis defense. So even though Pittsburgh’s defense played great, there are still question marks surrounding the team.
But winning fixes everything in the NFL. If the Steelers can continue to win games, everything will turn out just fine.
Next up for the Steelers is a Week 10 matchup against the Chargers.
