Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers continues to take steps forward in his recovery from a fractured left wrist, as he’s been practicing without his protective cast.
Rodgers has sported a couple different version of a cast or brace on his left, both in practices at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex and in games over the last few weeks, since first suffering the injury in a home win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 16.
A month later, Rodgers was throwing passes unencumbered at practice on Wednesday, during an outdoor practice session with the team. He’s not sure if that will continue to Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
“Yeah, it’s still not 100%,” Rodgers said. “I’m having battles with the training staff — happy battles not knockdown, drag out battles — but trying to feel more normal, so, to go through practices like today without anything on my wrist. I’m still not without some pain with certain movements, but I’m trying to get the strength back in all those little muscles that have been unused for a number of weeks. So, it’s a work in progress. Last week was obviously just a little pad on top of it. Not sure what this week’s going to be, but hopefully, you know, at some point there’s not going to be anything on my wrist.”
Rodgers said that Wednesday’s session was not the first that he’s taken part in without anything on his wrist, though he was wearing some type of protection on it at all three practices last week that were open to the media.
